Blood of Jesus

Santa Claus – Convenient Replacement for Jesus Christ

Here’s my Christmas post that comes to you 5 days late – or 360 days early – depends how you look at it. Before the next Christmas, let’s settle a few things…

  1. Where is Santa Claus the rest of the year?
  2. Who IS Santa?
  3. Is Santa correctly spelled as S-a-t-a-n?

These questions beg being answered. So let me give my two cents here!

  1. Where is Santa Claus the rest of the year?
He is hidden from view except during the Christmas season. He is a spirit, a movement. A counterfeit for Jesus Christ. While it may or may not be a sin to accept goodies from him (ask Jesus about it), keep in mind that he is not the Provider. All he can do is get a human to don his attire and spring sweets and toys from his bag and give a few light moments to his audience. He cannot save a dying man or restore marriages or finances. He certainly cannot give you a glimpse of what to expect the other side of life – more life…or agony…or cessation of existence (also called Nirvana). So if you do not see him the rest of the year, do not be surprised. He did not say in the Bible, that “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” Jesus did. So expect only Jesus to be with you 24 x 7 x 52.
  2. Who IS Santa?
Legend has it that he was a European saint called Nicolas. Saint Nicolas became Santa Claus over time. He loved kids and would give gifts to children. I just hope he taught those kids about the giver of every good gift and every perfect gift – the Father of lights, God Himself. But it’s amazing how this concept was preserved for so many centuries. I think there is a malevolent spiritual force behind the Santa Claus movement. If the saint is in Heaven, he must be feeling sorry he ever gave gifts to kid (thank God there is no sorry feeling in Heaven – but only clear knowledge of one’s works)!
  3. Is Santa correctly spelled as S-a-t-a-n?
Not the original one. But Satan has definitely hijacked Christmas and taken focus away from Jesus Christ to someone who looks like a poor caricature of Jesus. Jesus does not dance and roar with laughter – at least not on Earth. But Santa Claus makes all the right marketing moves. Santa is for the Happy Holidays culture. Jesus is for the Merry Christmas culture.

So what should you do?

Get the real deal. What’s more important – getting a big bar of chocolate or a close friend in who will stand by you in life’a thick and thin? You decide. You decide if you want to follow the one who put on a red robeor the one who created a red robe for himself, shedding blood and being covered with it until every sin of yours was paid for in full. If you feel Jesus deserves your attention more than Santa, head over to this post and do yourself a favour.

Easter Sunday: Wake Up! The Son Has Risen

Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;” 2 Corinthians 5:17, 18

When we wake up in the morning, we get to welcome a new day. It’s the sun that makes this possible. The sun set the previous evening and rose this morning. And so we could welcome today with open arms. Well, the Son (of God) died on Good Friday, was buried and came back to life on the third day. So by the same token, it’s the Son who makes it possible for us to put to death our old, sinful and wretched life, and put on the New Life that God has envisioned for us.

Some people say Easter was apparently a pagan festival celebrated by people in some regions of the world. They worshipped a fertility goddess. So the Easter egg may have been a symbol of fertility. Some other people believe that the Easter egg is a symbol of the empty tomb of Jesus. What’s the truth about Easter, then? Well, I think it does not matter. What matters is that you believe that Jesus Christ is God’s answer to save mankind from sin and its effects,
which is eternal death in hell.
Read this blog post to find out how you can be a beneficiary of God’s plan of salvation for mankind.

What’s Common Between Gilbert Hill and Christians?

The picture above is that of Gilbert Hill, Mumbai, India. According to Wikipedia, Gilbert Hill is a 200 ft (61 m) monolith column of black basalt rock at Andheri, in Mumbai (my hometown). The rock has a sheer vertical face and was formed when molten lava was squeezed out of the Earth’s clefts during the Mesozoic Era about 65 million years ago. If you are a practicing Christian, you might know that the Earth is not that old, but probably only about 6000-7000 years old. Scientists seem to have proven that all it takes for the Earth to cool down is a fraction of a second (Refer to Josh McDowell’s free ebook Reasons Skeptics Should Consider Christianityhttp://www.josh.org/resources/free-book-downloads/).
Gilbert Hill is a national level prehistoric heritage site. Many people the world over might be thrilled to learn that the town they live in is home to a prehistoric site like this. I too was, until the Holy Spirit told me that every square inch of ground I walked on is a prehistoric site. It has always been existing since He created Earth! What’s more, He showed me another important fact – guess what it was – that I am a prehistoric site myself, being born again! And how? Of course, because as per the Bible, my body is a temple of the Holy Spirit and the spirit of Jesus Christ lives in me. The Ancient of Days (God the Father – Jehovah) lives in me through Jesus and the Holy Spirit. So is not my body a prehistoric site? Yours too is, if you are a born again child of God through faith in His Son Jesus. Yet what a joyful irony, the Bible says that when you turn your life over to Jesus, old things pass away and all things become new and all things are of God!

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. Now all things are of God…” – 2 Corinthians 5:17,18

If you want to become a prehistoric site (yet recreated through faith in Jesus Christ the Son of God), read this blog post.

Blood of Jesus Vs. Poison of Serpent…and Jesus Wins!

“…and the blood of Jesus, His Son, cleanses us from all sin.” 1 John 1:7

A European in Australia had immuned himself against the deadly Australian Tiger Snake’s poison. He thought he was immune to all types of snake venoms. One day a snake with another type of poison bit him and he died the following day. Such is the tragedy of many people. Even when it comes to sin, they think they are immune from its wages (consequences). But the Word of God shall not pass away (Matthew 24:35). They who sin shall surely die…unless they cleanse themselves with the antidote to the poison – the Blood of Jesus. The life of the flesh is in the blood. And the life given by the Spirit is because of the Blood…of Jesus Christ!
Just as snake venom can change human blood so that it is no longer life-sustaining; the blood of Jesus changes a sinner to a completely new creation through the working of the Holy Spirit. It gives eternal life to the one who accepts God’s plan for their salvation. Learn how

What is Good Friday?

“Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.” – Luke 23:34
Today is Good Friday. Many people feel that it is a day of mourning. Actually, it is a day of rejoicing. It is the reason why Jesus Christ came into this world – to pay the penalty for every human being’s sins by dying on a wooden Cross. And as he had predicted, he rose back to life on the 3rd day – or after 3 days. Anyone who believes in this, repents of their sins and turns their life over into Jesus’ hands will be saved. That is a promise from God – one of the nearly 8,000 promises in the Bible.

Adam, Eve, You and the Blood of Jesus

“…the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.” (1 John 1:7)

Most of the time, we tend to think only about our own sins being washed away in the blood that Jesus Christ shed on the cross 2,000 years ago. But his blood washed away Adam and Eve’s sin too.

In the Garden of Eden, when Adam and Eve sinned, they hid themselves, being ashamed of their nakedness. Remember, just a few verses before that, the Bible says that “they were both naked…and were not ashamed.” (Gen. 2:25) So how come this change? Because of sin! When they sinned, though they gained in terms of knowledge, they lost trust in the LORD. Their sin – and consequent shame – created a distance between them and God. Their former nakedness was innocent and baby-like. Their post-sin nakedness was a symbol of their sin being ‘exposed’ in front of God.

God is gracious and merciful. He did not want sin to get in the way and separate His children from Him forever. But as we saw in an earlier post, sin must be paid for – innocent blood must be shed to prevent sinners from going to hell. So God killed an innocent animal (there was no human being other than Adam and Eve at that time and they had already sinned). God used the animal’s skin to cover Adam and Eve’s nakedness (exposed sins). This event foreshadowed the covering of our exposed sins by the Blood of Jesus Christ. That covering applies to you only if you have confessed Christ as Saviour. Covering implies “blotting out” of sins. So if you believe (as per John 3:16), that Jesus is the Son of God, God promises to save you and take your sins as far away from you “as the east is from the west.” (Psalm 103:12)

Praise the LORD for this promise!
