Creator

God is Generous and Unconditionally Loving

God knew that there will be some people who will reject Jesus and therefore Him. He knew that because of this wrong choice, they will not benefit from the blood that Jesus shed for them on the Cross. Yet He chose to make healing available.to even them (through Jesus being whipped before being crucified) – this, despite knowing that He will never hear “Father!” from their lips, to address their Creator. Oh – how generous and good God the Father is! Truly worthy to be believed in – and worthy of praise from all of His Creation.

3 Keys to Express Evangelism

“to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed?” – Isaiah 53:1

On the judgment day, God would be justified if he adds the words “by you” before the ‘?’ I once heard a preacher rightly say that the Church is notorious for being slow. There are probably tens of thousands of humans dying every day and about 80-90% of them are being consigned to hell because they have died as sinners. Even if no one ever preached the Gospel to them, they are accountable before God (as per Romans 1:20), because if they were really sincere about seeking God and wanting to know Him – their Creator – they could have called out to Him in the privacy of their bedroom or slum or forest/cave and God would have definitely revealed Himself to them.

But that notwithstanding, we believers in Jesus have been commissioned by God by default, to preach the Gospel…to evangelize. ‘By default’ here means that since we have believed in Jesus as the Saviour and repented of our sins, we are automatically supposed to fulfill the Great Commision (or G.C., if you will!), even though the G.C. was given 2,000 years ago.

I work in an NGO where we are developing a surgical simulator to train ophthalmologists to perform cataract surgeries using a low cost technique. Someone in my office once said:

“There are 3 major reasons for slow progress: skepticism, lack of communication, and the burden of proof. These factors have contributed to the delayed acceptance of medical simulation.”

I thought about it. The same applies to Christianity. The message of salvation as a free gift through faith in Jesus Christ, has not been proclaimed as well and as speedily as it should have been, due to skepticism, and communication issues. Let’s look at each of the 3 points mentioned by my colleague:

1. Skepticism

The Gospel is not being received universally because there are many skeptics. Skeptics owe it to at least themselves and God, to conduct an objective, unbiased research and find out the Truth. Anyway, Romans 1:20 applies to them: “For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.” We can overcome their skepticism by overcoming our…

2. Communication Problems

once heard a preacher or apologist say, that a survey revealed that about 80% of Christians never win even one soul to Christ. Sounds like Jesus gave the Great Commission only to 20% of us! If you start getting comfortable in your church seat, maybe it’s time to get un-comfortable! If you shared the Gospel but the hearer did not believe, then it’s fine. At least you tried. But before preaching, do pray that they receive the Gospel message or tract willingly and that they pray the sinner’s prayer with a true repentant heart. Every Gospel tract should have a salvation call, with a model sinner’s prayer, in case the person wants to articulate their receiving Jesus. The conversion of heart might already have taken place between the time they hear the Gospel and pray the salvation prayer. But to be certain, it helps to have the prayer included in the tract or as a part of your sharing the message.

Another way of evangelism is to pray for those who are sick. You can tell them that Jesus has paid the price for their healing. Lay hands on them and pray (command healing to manifest in Jesus’ name). Once you have done this, you can say, “Just as Jesus paid the price for your healing, he also bore the penalty for your sins and paid the price for your forgiveness.” Then go ahead and share with them the good news of salvation through Jesus. In case you do not believe that bodily healing is in the atonement, then right now read the blog post titled Is Healing in the Atonement?

3. Burden of Proof

The Bible says that God is watching over His Word to perform it. “The words of the LORD are pure words, like silver refined in a furnace on the ground, purified seven times.” (Psalm 12:6)  God has given us plenty of resources to prove to people that He is who the Bible claims He is – a blesser…always good…His mercy endures forever. Check out site like AllAboutGod.com, AnswersinGenesis.org, etc. If we go out and preach the Gospel, heal the sick, raise the dead and cast out demons, God will back up His word with an amazing work. He has promised in Exodus 34:10 even to Old Testament saints:

“And he said, “Behold, I am making a covenant. Before all your people I will do marvels, such as have not been created in all the earth or in any nation. And all the people among whom you are shall see the work of the LORD, for it is an awesome thing that I will do with you.”

God has already proven His Word. Now it’s up to the skeptics to dig out the truth – and up to us believers to help them in this endeavour.

Inscribed on the Palm of God’s Hands

Go to one of the tourist locations around the world and you might spot enterprising folks offering to inscribe or write your name on a grain of rice. Those who have never read (or those who have forgotten) the verse above, might be excited to have their names printed on a grain of rice by a stranger – and pay for it. Even if it is really of no consequence at all!

“See, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands;” – Isaiah 49:16
God is in love with every one of us. In Hindu and Islamic marriages, a bride gets her hands and feet decorated with floral and other designs using henna. Somewhere within the design or pattern, she asks for the name of the person she loves so much to be drawn – her bridegroom’s. Well, God loves us so much, that He has inscribed us on the palm of His own hands – the very hands of the Creator of the entire Universe! And not just on one hand, but on His hands – meaning both of them! O what a privilege to have our refuge in the hands of our Creator!
Dear Reader, if you don’t know what I am talking about, then probably you have not read the Bible. Read the Bible – it is the inspired Word of God. It tells you how much God loves you and that He has a plan for your life much more than simply living for weekends, occasional getaways and children’s convocations and marriages. Draw near to Him – after all it’s He who is your first relative. He conceived your beautiful baby face in His heart before your parents saw your face in the labour room, or even conceived you! He was with you always and now He wants you to be with Him forever into eternity, starting with your life here on Earth.

Which is your favourite book in the Bible?

It’s a challenging question, isn’t it? Maybe you can widen your choice to 3-4 books! One of my favourite books is the Gospel of John. It is really dramatic. “In the beginning was the Word….He came to His own and His own did not receive Him. But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children (sons) of God…” (John 1)

I love the Epistles. If the Gospels are the head of the New Testament, the Epistles are the heart, with Revelation being the spiritual feet that take you into the future. The Word of God really is like a cool or warm shower of of rain – depending on what the season is where you are at the time of reading it!
Do share what your favourite books of the Bible are and why.
If you wonder why I said which “books of the Bible” – is the Bible not 1 book…then you must read the blog post titled 10 Amazing Bible Facts You Must Know. Once you have read that post, head over straight to Good News Friday. It tells you about the love of Jesus for every single human being – no matter what religious background you have.
Jesus loves you and Good bless you!

Led by the Spirit of God

“Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith.” – Hebrews 13:7
I remember those who led me to the Lord Jesus Christ. I got saved through a website www.demonbuster.com. Although I do not agree with some of their teachings on spiritual warfare, God used that website to plant the seed of His Word in me. I was hungry so I ate up that seed and by His grace and through the power of His Spirit, the seed is bearing fruit.
There have been several others who have led me along the Way. Heb 13:7 exhorts us to imitate their faith. Praise God for the solid faith of that uncle (I will keep all the names anonymous) who had lost an eye and has been on dialysis for the last few years. The devil has not succeeded in shaking his faith in God, despite the afflictions. Recently, this uncle’s doctor asked him to give a speech to about 60-70 people in the hospital where he regularly goes for dialysis. Uncle got up and shared the Gospel with them. Looks like he has decided to glorify the LORD come what may! By all means, physical fitness is necessary and you should aim for it/preserve it; but what good is it if you are not fit enough to preach the Gospel? This uncle truly gives God a ‘Sacrifice of Praise’.
There is another brother who has interceded for me quite a lot. He has seen countless miracles as a result of his faith in the Living God. His church’s managing committee once asked him whether he had a first class pass to commute in Mumbai’s suburban trains. He said he didn’t. They asked him to get one, but he refused. He said “the money that pays for my pass is the blood of the saints – they work hard and live out the Word of God. I cannot squander their hard-earned money to commute in comfort.” He often goes on house visitations in various parts of Mumbai. Mumbai is one of the largest and most populous cities in the world with a reasonably good but grossly inadequate mass transport system. A local train that is supposed to carry only 1,200 commuters carries 5,000! And to travel this way in 35 degrees Celsius with 80% relative humidity – not an easy task. But this soldier of God chooses the narrow, thorny road as Jesus his Master and Leader is with him wherever he goes (Joshua 1:9). He lives out the verse “I can do all things through Jesus who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:13)
My local pastor graduated from Bible College at Baltimore, Maryland. He prayed about God’s call on his life and felt the Spirit tell him He wanted him to come back to India – God had a job for him here. He confirmed this with his pastor who prayed about it and felt the same. My pastor has now completed almost 20 years of ministry in India. It’s not easy – he’s been put in prison once for preaching the Gospel (though Christian evangelism is perfectly legal in India) – in the same Indian state where an Australian missionary was martyred many years ago. He’s had a tough job. Life would probably have been much less challenging had he stayed in the comforts of the US. But thanks be to God that he brought him back to India, as our church now has almost two dozen branches all over India and about seven in Nepal!
Why do you think some people seem to be able to overcome all odds? It’s not only because they have faith in Jesus. It’s because they have the faith OF Jesus!
I thank God for exhorting me to imitate the faith of those who have led me spiritually in one way or another. My real Leader is the Spirit of Jesus Christ, who leads me and guides me into all Truth. (John 16:13) Amen.

Christian Apologetics: Get Equipped to Defend

“I apologize for the inconvenience caused to you by my faith in Jesus Christ.”
No! Christian apologetics is certainly not summarised that way. What then, is it?

“You shall know the truth…”
These famous words spoken by Jesus Christ in John 8:32 give us a clue. So when someone asks you why you follow Jesus Christ and not any other ‘god’ or ‘godman’ (“after all, even they do miracles”) you need not just say “Jesus has changed my life completely, for the better.” Because many people may not be convinced by that answer. Thankfully God – knowing the human mentality – gave us hardcore evidence to prove that Jesus Christ existed, was crucified and died, was buried in a rich man’s tomb and rose back to life (and has not died after that). He gave us historical, archaeological and statistical proof that what the Bible says is indeed true. But unless you are aware of these proofs, you won’t be able to convince skeptics, apart from the Holy Spirit opening their eyes.

I urge you to equip yourself not only in the Bible, but also in knowledge that you can have handy, when confronted with questions about your Christian faith. Some good online resources are:

  1. Apologetics315
  2. Answers in Genesis
  3. All About God
  4. Apologetics Press

In fact, Apologetics315 is actually an apologetics aggregator blog, that gives you links to many other relevant websites, podcasts etc. Most – if not all – of the material on these sites is free. If you prefer to have your apologetics material in book form, you can visit Christianbook.com and buy your stuff there.

Important: Even after you have given all the evidence in the world to a skeptic, it is only the Holy Spirit who can open the person’s spiritual eyes to the truth. So as you share information and minister to these precious souls, pray in your heart for God to touch their hearts with the same love, mercy and grace that He showered upon you that day when you gave your heart to Jesus!

God Wants to Live in Your Heart!

The Universe has 100,000,000,000 = 100 billion = 10000,00,00,000 = 10,000 crore galaxies (see Wikipedia: “Galaxy”). Our galaxy is among the smaller ones. And it contains at least 200 billion stars (and possibly up to 400 billion stars – see Wikipedia: “Milky Way”), other than the Sun! Do you wish to calculate how many stars there must be in all the galaxies combined? I don’t, at least! The Bible says, that “the host of heaven cannot be numbered.” (Jeremiah 33:22)

Now…these galaxies, we know, were created. They didn’t just appear out of nowhere. They were created by (obviously) an intelligent Creator who we call God. And if I create a clay model, it belongs to me. If you create a software program, it belongs to you unless and until someone pays a price to buy it from you. God created the universe and everything – every living and non-living being – in it. So naturally, the universe and everything in it – living and non-living – belongs to Him. He can choose to live anywhere. Yet He prefers to live in your heart. Is your heart big enough for Him to gain access? If not, what’s stopping you from trusting such a great Creator and letting Him guide you every moment of your life?

Do you know what a lovely life He has in store for you! Read this post to learn how Gracious and Merciful God is. Get yourself a Bible today from Christianbook.com, start reading from the Gospel of John or Mark and see your life change – for the Best!

All the Best!
