Greater Grace Church: Celebrating 25 Years

The India chapter of Greater Grace Church (http://www.ggwo.org/) is celebrating 25 years of existence by holding a conference in Mumbai India from 23rd April to 26 April 2009.

I have not been able to attend as I work with Taxsmile.com, an online tax filing portal. This is a busy time for us. I have found time to write this post after so many days! God-willing, I will make time next year and profit from the teachings. Amen.

Good News Friday

Yesterday was Good Friday. My local church Pastor Karl Silva began aptly when he said the day was as much a Good News Friday as it was Good Friday. This day, 2000 years ago, God the Father “gave His only begotten Son, so that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)

Imagine eating out at a restaurant and running up a huge bill you cannot foot. A man walks by and sees your plight. He has compassion for you. Out of grace, he approaches the manager and volunteers to pay your bill, so that you can walk away free!
The manager will then stamp the bill with “PAID IN FULL” That Saviour is Jesus Christ, the Son of God – or God the Son. And Jesus not only died on the Cross to pay for your sins as much as mine, but on the third day (Easter Sunday), he also walked out of his grave alive in a resurrected body that cannot be damaged, killed or destroyed. He has not died since then and is alive and living in heaven, seated at the right-hand side of God the Father.

So if you want to be sure of going to heaven when you die, pray this simple prayer, but with a genuinely repentant heart. God will begin the beautiful process of change in you.“Father God, I confess that I am a sinner. I have committed sins against you. I do not deserve to be forgiven. I cannot pay for my sins on my own. I need someone who can do that for me. Lord, I want to go to heaven when I die. But as your Word – the Bible – says, if I die as a sinner, I cannot go to heaven. I would go to hell to suffer forever in the lake of fire. But Lord thank you for sending your Son Jesus as a human being 2000 years ago to pay for my sins. Lord I believe that he died to pay the penalty for my sins and the price for my forgiveness; I believe that Jesus was buried and he rose again. Lord, wash me clean with the precious Blood that he shed on the Cross. Fill me with your Holy Spirit and make me the person You want me to be. Take me to heaven when I die. Save me, Lord. In Jesus’ Name I pray. Amen.”

Start attending a Bible-believing church
and study the Bible everyday, starting with the Book of John or Mark. Pray everyday. Ask the Holy Spirit to teach you how to do so. Your life will change for the better, for good. I should know. Mine has.

Christian Apologetics

I signed up for a course in Christian Apologetics offered by the Greater Grace Fellowship, Mumbai, India. The church is the India chapter of Greater Grace World Outreach, Baltimore, USA.

As I go through the material, I become more and more convinced on why the Bible is the infallible Word of God. There is so much scientific evidence to support what the Bible claims. In fact, scholars have proved how the Theory of Evolution is self-negating and absolutely unscientific. In fact, it has been discovered that the propagator of the Theory of Evolution, Charles Darwin, too became a Christian in the last six months of his life. He regretted having made public his thoughts on evolution as an inexperienced youngster. His thoughts suited the needs of a lot of people at the time, who lapped it up. This has not been publicised as probably it does not suit the agenda of many influential people. Thank God we have God on our side!

Actually, what the Bible says about Creation is full of logic and has the power to minister to the even most stubborn skeptics. The art of defending one’s faith in the Bible and Jesus is, in fine, what Christian Apologetics is all about.

Words of Wisdom

“Words are always under your control until you speak them, but you come under their control once you have spoken them.”

That’s why I became a writer – so that I need not be in control of words because I write them and don’t speak them!!

Happy Friday!!

Happiness vs Joy

“Enjoy the journey, enjoy every moment, and quit worrying about winning and losing.”

– Matt Biondi, former Olympic swimming champion

Someone said “there is no way to happiness; happiness is the way!”

More important than happiness is Joy. Happiness is more of a feeling. Joy is from deeper down – it’s an experience. There are cases of people who were extremely sad (not at all happy). They got visions of God and their lives changed after the encounter. They didn’t become happy overnight, but they experienced immediate and everlasting joy that cannot be put into words. May we all experience such joy – with or without getting visions!

And yes…have a nice day!!

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

“People are so worried about what they eat between Christmas and the New Year, but they really should be worried about what they eat between the New Year and Christmas.” – Author Unknown

Last Friday we were between Christmas and New Year. Now we’re back to work. A new chance – or a new chance to create a new opportunity – look at it the way you want!

Edith Lovejoy Pierce said:

“We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year’s Day.”

Wish you a Happy 365-chapter book!

Unique Identification (UID) for Indian Citizens

Indian Citizens may soon get a single Smart Card containing a Unique Identification (UID) that will be linked to documents like the Voter’s ID, Passport, Driving Licence etc. The key benefit will be that when you produce the UID, all details that are required for verification while transacting with government and private agencies, will be accessible in one shot. A side benefit is that, say, if you changed your residential address, you will not need to liaise with different agencies to get your various documents modified/updated. One change in the UID and all official records will reflect this change.

Looks like happy days are ’round the corner. If this one becomes a hit, living in India may never be the same again! Read this post for more.

Young Leader Shows The ‘Way’

I got an SMS from my local Pastor this morning that one of our young pastors’ mother is no more. Today is a Friday and my colleagues must be awaiting my “Happy Friday” mail. I don’t feel like putting my fingers to the keyboard for this mail, so will not send that mailer this week.

The one who created her took her back. I had never met her personally, though I might have seen her at church. But God blessed her in that she bore a son who has grown up to be a brilliant young man of God. I am sure God will take him places and through him, will comfort millions of souls who need His healing touch. In fact, while his mom was in hospital, he not only prayed for her, but also visited and prayed for other patients in the hospital. They were amazed and asked him “Pastor, your own mom is so sick and you still care to pray for us, who you even don’t know?” It takes the courage and strength that only God can give, to pray for others too, when your own loved ones are sick. If India had such leaders in politics too, wouldn’t life be different in this country in which St. Thomas became a martyr for the Gospel’s sake?

Personalised Health Care from Amway – Is It True?

I recently got to learn that Amway are coming with a unique personalised health care programme, where you are prescribed (and sold, of course!) health products based on your genetic traits. It sort of works like this…
You allow Amway to collect your blood sample. DNA tests are performed and they figure out which genetic diseases your parents had/have and which ones you are likely to get and in approximately how many years! Accordingly, they chalk out a preventative health care programme for you. Like all progrrammes, of course, whether or not to follow it through is up to the person himself/herself! But I wanted to know if this news is true.
Also, if it is true, is it in line with God’s plan? Should we interfere with our natural way of life? Think about it and leave your comments.
